How It Works
The PAE procedure shrinks the prostate by reducing blood flow to it.
- Prior to your procedure a catheter will be placed into your bladder.
- Once sedated, the interventional radiologist makes a tiny incision in your inner thigh, then uses x-ray to guide a catheter into the blood vessels that feed the prostate.
- A liquid contrast is injected to make the prostate arteries visible.
- Tiny microspheres (particles) are injected through the catheter and into these blood vessels to reduce blood supply to the prostate, causing the prostate to shrink.
